From Broke and Lovesick to Making $3,000 Per Article Doing What I Love
Hi there, and thanks for visiting Millennial Success! I’m Daniel Dowling, founder–and I’m also the smiley and inexplicably-pointing guy just above. (Yes, those are man-pris.)
Do you know what the exact opposite of success is?
In case you’re racking your brain, the opposite of success is my life story up until age 24, technically. Before then I’d been kicked out of highschool (twice), booted from the Army (which is almost impossible to do), and I dropped out of college. If failure was an art, I was f!$#*ng Picasso.
Learn about how I made a life-180 and started a lucrative freelance writing career in this podcast–>
When I wasn’t mooching off of another girlfriend, I was back sleeping on Mom’s couch and squabbling with my little sisters. Judging from my story, you’d figure that failure was written into my genome. But every single one of my siblings were successful college graduates and business owners. What was my problem?
Turns out that by failing to plan, I was planning to fail all along.
Without direction and self-accountability, I was distraction personified. Unlimited Facebook visits, texts, emails, and articles–these habits ensured that I never accomplished anything meaningful with my time. They made me broke and depressed…the opposite of successful.
But my life story’s a little different now.
I’m not Richard Branson or Tony Robbins (yet!). But now I get paid several thousand per article, I write about the things I love, and I enjoy the life that I plan for more and more each day. I’m at my peak of fitness, wealth and creativity. And I’ve even been fortunate enough to make a great living teaching others how to plan for their most successful selves’ as a coach.
So how does you go from a love-sick pup to a thriving entrepreneur and human being in the span of a few years?
